The Sustained Magic Team is made up of Matt Green, Ed Kennedy, Angela Truby and James Glazebrook.
Matt Green
- Artistic Director
Matt trained as a director at Rose Bruford College. Since graduating, Matt has been working across the East Midlands, directing shows for the Theatre Royal in Nottingham, Front of House Youth Theatre in Derby and Leicester College.
In 2005, along with two college friends, Matt formed Sustained Magic, an East Midlands based Theatre Company specialising in new writing. As director of Sustained Magic, Matt has directed six productions, ranging from promenade story walks around Ilkeston, to Pub Crawl Tours of short plays.
Matt’s directing credits include Tony Harrison’s ‘The Mysteries’ (Nottingham Theatre Royal / Nottingham Castle) Sarah Kane’s ‘4:48 Psychosis’ (Nottingham Theatre Royal) Arthur Miller’s ‘The Crucible’ (Nottingham Arts theatre), Angela Truby’s ‘I don’t Like Mondays’ (Front of House Youth Theatre, Derby). With Sustained Magic, Matt’s directing credits include ‘Pub Crawl Tour 2005’, ‘No More Last Orders’ and the sell out ‘Girl in the Window’. As assistant director, Matt has assisted Chris White on a production of Sam Sheppard’s ‘A Lie of the Mind’, David Longford on productions of Dody Smiths ‘101 Dalmatians’, Gogols ‘Government Inspector’ and David Longford’s ‘Robin of Sherwood’. As well as directing, Matt has also designed and run workshops for community and education groups as well as conducted research and consultancy for the Arts Council East Midlands. Ed Kennedy
- Performer
Ed has a passion for theatre and all its onion like layers. Ed learned what it is to work as a professional in the Theatre Industry with the Derby Playhouse Youth and Community Theatre but his education started way back with GCSE Drama. He went on to study at South East Derbyshire Collage where he gained a Distinction in Performing Arts and after studying for a year in Winchester Ed came back to his roots and gained a 2.1 in Theatre Arts at the University of Derby.
While studying at Derby, Ed developed many of his skills such as Play Writing, Devising, Improvisation, Singing, Mask-Work, Theatre in Education, Shakespeare, Directing and had the opportunity to perform at not only Derbyʼs Guild Hall but also the Buxton and Edinburgh Festivals.
Since graduating in 2005 Ed has worked with Sustained Magic, on projects such as the Ghost Walks, several Education Programs and the Pub Tours, having written two plays and performed in two of the tours. Ed’s work has taken him across the country and the world.
As well as designing and maintaining the Sustained Magic website, Ed also designs all he publicity material for the company and co-ordinates the social networking aspects of the operation.
Ed also works in the communications skills training sector for many public sector organisations such as the NHS, Royal Collage of Psychiatrists and the Fire Service.

Angela Truby
- Writer in Chief
Angela Truby is an extensively performed playwright who has worked with numerous theatre companies across the country.
Her work has toured such venues as York Theatre Royal and the Sheffield Crucible to pubs, community halls and universities. As well as working with Sustained Magic she has her own theatre company The Gorgeous North with which she was nominated for a Stage award at the Edinburgh Fringe for their play Talking to Spacehoppers.
James Glazebrook
James Glazebrook is a founding director of Sustained Magic and is responsible for the financial/administrative aspects of the company. James also undertakes occasional front of house duties at productions and helps with marketing/website design. James currently teaches ICT full time in secondary education and this has resulted in a reduced involvement in the day-to-day running of the company. However, he still holds a keen interest in the company’s success and enjoys being part of the team.
